Description:

  • VEC Energy has established and operates a 3.4 MW Small Hydro Power Plant (SHPP) on the Pirinska Bistritsa River in South West Bulgaria, generating 12 to 14 GWh of renewable electricity annually.

  • The electricity is integrated into the national power system through the 110kV network, displacing conventional electricity from Bulgaria's grid. The Katuntsi SHPP project aims to achieve an average annual Verified Emission Reduction (VER) of around 10,000 tons.

Objective:

  • The project's objective is verification under the VCS/VERRA, a widely recognised voluntary greenhouse gas program, providing a robust framework for measuring, monitoring, and verifying emission reduction projects. This verification is conducted by our experts as part of RINA Bulgaria’s verification team. More about the project here.
